Spring 2022 Class Example

This 6-8 week intensive involves three 6-hour Zoom sessions plus an in-depth group project initiated during Session 2. Each project then meets weekly – dates and times determined by each group. Overall there are 4 hours of assignments on your own plus group work. Usually taught March – May.

Module 1: Introduction to Zero Waste Planning (IZWP)

This module introduces key concepts and resources. We discuss Zero Waste fundamentals, global principles, recognition and certification programs and hear from guest speakers from model communities and businesses including former students. May be taken as a stand-alone class.

Module 2: Zero Waste Tools (ZWT)

Ready to go deeper into the practice of Zero Waste? In this session we will learn about the tools of Zero Waste planning, including materials characterization, policy and program examples from around North America, diversion estimates and greenhouse gas emission reduction potential of  Zero Waste initiatives.

Module 3: Zero Waste Planning Presentations (ZWPP)

In depth examination of the path to Zero Waste explored through group planning exercises researched in advance by students. Session 3 utilizes all of the material and tools presented in Sessions 1 and 2, so that students finish the day with the framework of a Zero Waste plan for a community, business or institution.
